Pattern Creatures

Earlier this week students followed a number of steps to create and extend their own pattern creatures. The body of the creature needed to grow in a predictable way each day. Today students traded the representations they drew of their creatures on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with the task of extending each creature to what it would like on Sunday (7 days old). There was a lot of great math talk and sharing of ideas! Some students met challenges when their peer’s original representation didn’t grow in a predictable way – they helped each other see where errors were and what needed to be done to correct them.
