Circles, Dots and Paragraphs

This week room 6 started a unit on multiplication. Today the students played Circles and Dots to reinforce the understanding of multiplication as the combining of equal groups. Here are the instructions so you can play at home – Circles and Dots Game. All you need is a die and pencil and paper. An additional rule we added in the classroom is to write the corresponding repeated addition sentence, alongside the multiplication sentence, with each turn taken.

Although we are finished our unit on time the boys and girls are continuing to refine their analogue clock reading skills. I covered the digital clock in the classroom earlier this week and banned peeking to look in the hallway for the digital time. Please practise at home in everyday conversations to give real life meaning to these skills.

After spending a few days writing and discussing paragraphs we wrote our learning goal and success criteria. The students then applied these criteria to some writing samples from previous EQAO tests. Tomorrow they will write their own paragraph about a place they would like to visit. Once completed they will assign the paragraph a level and justify their thinking.
