Terrific Thursday

Everyone looked fabulous today for Picture Day and did their best to stay tidy at recess. The weather has been nothing short of spectacular all week. We enjoyed D.P.A. outside both yesterday and today playing Hide the Tile and Circle Dodgeball. The cross country runners have also had perfect conditions for their practices.

In the lab this week the grade 2’s and 3’s spent time learning the ins and outs of Bitstrips for Schools, which is a free educational comic making website. Students are able to log in at home and share their work with you. Their assigment this week was to create 3-4 panels with their character expressing a variety of emotions through body language and the use of captions and speech bubbles. The goal was for students to learn some of the many features and tools of Bitstrips and develop a comfort level.

We have been working very hard on developing our success criteria this week for making connections, writing a personal narrative and our home reading program – For the Love of Reading. The Learning Goals page will be updated tomorrow to reflect this and a note will be going home tomorrow with details about For the Love of Reading. The students are super excited and have come up with great ideas about how they can demonstrate their learning. I can’t wait to see the results. The first cycle begins on Monday and lasts 3 weeks.

Prodigy, Poetry and Sunshine

You have probably heard all about the new math game Prodigy from your child by now. The grade 3’s created their wizard avatars this morning and had some time to explore the game. It was a unanimous hit.

We ventured out into the sunshine for D.P.A. today. A perfect day for soccer and four square. Bring on the warm weather – we are ready!

A fantastic start was made on poetry writing for Poem in my Pocket day on Friday. The highlight of my day was listening to the single line each student chose to share with the class today. I can’t wait to see and hear poetry being shared all around the school on the Friday.
